‘Growing up in a Yoruba-speaking community, the word, ‘Agan’ (means: Barren Woman) was a word being used to refer to a woman that is struggling with conception. From a young age, I was forced to understand that one who can’t conceive is as good as useless in the society. Many years later, an uncle faces this challenge with his wife of over 10 years. We hear of different medical procedures they had undergone. She died in the struggle in November 2017 as a result of an improper surgery operation carried out on her. Ever since, I wanted to tell the story of this struggle that people go through that affect’s mental health, tests religious faiths and make many do the unimaginable just to save face from the pressure from family, friends and society. I want to use this film to tackle the stigma and enable positive change towards how people view those with fertility challenges. Also establishing the fact that it as a man’s problem as it can be a woman’s problem also. Many are tired of addressing the situation anytime they are being asked when they will have a child.’
